Bal Sahitya Mahotsav (BSM) 2024

Ten years ago, Bal Sahitya Mahotsav became  the first ever children’s literature festival to be held in Nepal. It is an annual event that has been organized by Rato Bangala Kitab, Rato Bangala School, and Rato Bangala Foundation eight times. This year, we look forward to celebrating the ninth edition of BSM on 2 March, 2024, with exciting activities, exhilarating performances, and thought-provoking interactions with authors.

This edition will feature the internationally renowned author Linda Sue Park.  Park has won multiple awards, including the John Newbery Medal and the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, Author Honor. There will also be readings by and interactions with esteemed national writers and storytellers, open acts for children, and the launch of children’s books, including in Braille. This year we are excited to announce the launch of four books: "Manohar ko Munimya le k bhetyo," "Manohar ko Munimya leK layo," Bagh ko ghar and, in Braille, "Kaubudi ra aru kathaharu."

The festival also features  performances by the famous Nepali singer Wangden Sherpa and the only ventriloquist in Nepal, Seema Golchha, as well as dances, slam poetry, and musical performances by students.

Students, parents, and guests can look forward to exciting literacy games, exhibitions, and many interactive activities for children. Other fun activities include dressing up in costumes, stalls, and photo booths.  Delicious food, of course, adds to the vibrancy of the festival.

Continuing the BSM’s  initiative to reach a wide audience, the Rato Bangala Partnership in Outreach Program (RBPOP) is sponsoring a trip to the festival for students from the community schools from two districts, Gorkha, and Lalitpur. Rato Bangala Foundation, for its part, will conduct workshops for teachers and students of public schools. Teachers will become better equipped to help children develop a love of reading and writing and will learn how to organize literature festivals in their own schools.
